South America has many stunning natural landscapes. From the ethereal salt plains to the soaring peaks, South America is full of breathtaking natural beauty. It doesn't matter if you're looking to trek through Brazil's rainforest or cruise between Chile's fjords. Or kayak with sea turtles on the Argentine coast, there is something here for everyone.

South American adventures are not only great, but they offer cultural immersion as well as exploration of different cultures. Take a trip to Peru and explore the Amazon rainforest. Also, see the floating islands of Lake Titicaca.

We recommend spending at least 2 weeks in each country, depending on your timeframe. This will allow you to experience the most important sights without feeling overwhelmed.

Bolivia is an excellent starting point for an adventure-packed South America tour. The country is home to the ethereal Uyuni salt flats, where you can stargaze and watch the Milky Way over the vast desert. A bike ride along Death Road is a great option, as it crosses the Bolivian altiplano.

Peru is another good choice for a 3-week South America travel. It is a beautiful country, rich in culture, with vibrant colonial cities, colourful mountains, and the remains of an ancient pre-Incan civilisation. You can start in Cusco, a UNESCO-listed world heritage city. From there you can trek to Machu Picchu, the impressive Inca Empire site.

If you're looking for a little more adventure, take a trip to Peru's spectacular Lake Titicaca, where the Uro people build their reed islands and live on top of them. Taquile Island can be visited for stunning views of the lake as well as the opportunity to buy hand-knit Peruvian fabrics.

The Atacama is an ideal place to start a 3 week trip through South America. This desert has beautiful landscapes and moon-like terrain. The desert is just outside San Pedro de Atacama. It's home to amazing wildlife. You can even take day trips with geysers that spray water into the air.

You could also choose to swap Peru for Bolivia, and travel to La Paz to visit the Salar de Uyuni. Here you can tour Isla Incahuasi which is a cactus-covered island rising from the salt flats. This impressive site is sure to be the highlight of your South America tour.

If you have more than two months to spare, you may be able to extend your Ecuadorian journey and visit Quito. The capital is beautiful. You can find hummingbirds among the cloud forest, or you can swim in waterfalls. After that, head to Nazca and see the ruins of ancient Mayan civilisations. You can also take a day trip to Mindo, which is just a few hours away by bus from Quito.
